Girls wrestling on the rise in Illinois
Wrestling is growing beyond old constraints of being male-dominated. In 2004, women's free style wrestling was added to the Summer Olympics. And starting with the 2022 school year, girls wrestling became an officially sanctioned sport by the Illinois High School Association. Illinois the 28th state to sanction girls wrestling as a sport. The IHSA told the Chicago Tribune that girls wrestling is the fastest growing sport in the state. In February 2024, we'll have the third state tournament in Bloomington.
