Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the culture and history of people who are Latino, Spanish, including those native of the Carribean and Brazil between September 15 and October 15.

According to the US Census Bureau, there are 17 Illinois counties where at least one in 10 people identify as Hispanic or Latino. In the decade leading up to the 2020 Census, those communities grew substantially in Rock Island, Champaign, DeKalb, Peoria, McLean and Sangamon counties.

Two organizers in charge of some local Hispanic Heritage Month events join the 21st today.
