How to raise confident, self-sufficient kids

Most people who came of age in the 1980s or earlier had a fair amount of freedom in their neighborhoods. Walking to and from school, biking to the park, renting “Top Gun” for the 27th time from the local video store. But for many parents today, that level of freedom seems crazy. How can they be sure their little ones will look both ways before crossing the road? What will happen if the kids get hurt or abducted?

Our guests say parents and children do not have to be prisoners of their fear. We were joined by two authors of parenting books to discuss how to raise independent and capable children.

This segment originally aired on July 12, 2021.
