Illinois Marijuana: First Year Sales & Social Equity

It’s been a year since Illinois became the 11th state to legalize marijuana last January. On the first day of sales, legal cannabis in Illinois brought in nearly $3.2 million dollars with a total of almost $11 million dollars in sales by the end of that week, according to the state. Since its legalization, marijuana is on pace to top more than a billion dollars in total sales for 2020. In addition to sales, on New Year’s Eve, Governor J.B. Pritzker expunged nearly half a million cannabis cases.

The 21st was joined a reporter who covers Cannabis for the Chicago Sun Times, a reporter with Marijuana Business Daily and the owner of the Herbal Care Center — a dispensary in Chicago to speak more about sales and the law’s social equity promises.
