Illinois Symphony Orchestra appoints Taichi Fukumura as new music director

Today, we'll talk with the new music director for the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. Taichi Fukumara has been appointed to lead the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and will begin his time in the post on July 1, 2024. 

Fukumura is currently finishing up his tenure as Assistant Conductor at the Fort Worth Symphony. He has won second prize in the prestigious Mahler Competition and has earned the Solti Foundation's Career Assistance Award four times.

We'll talk about his favorite music, what inspired him to conduct and his experience in different competitions. We'll also learn more about what he hopes to bring to the Illinois Symphony Orchestra.
