Illinois Sen. Elgie Sims (D-Chicago) is the chairman of the Criminal Law Committee. Sims has worked on myriad issues of criminal justice reform over the years, including the Illinois law on police body cameras. He represents the far south side of Chicago as well as many other suburbs, ranging from Lansing to Manteno. 

In wake of the killing of George Floyd by a white police officer in Minneapolis, protestors have continued to voice their demands for police reform. Sims spoke to The 21st about his thoughts on calls to defund police departments and how he thinks police forces are handling the ongoing protests.
