Can these tiny Japanese cars become a hit in the U.S.?

President Trump wants to allow a class of tiny Japanese vehicles to be built and sold in the U.S. They’re known as Kei cars, and they’ve mostly been banned here.

However, you can actually already drive Kei cars in America… they just have to be 25-years-old or older. Many people are doing just that, including here in Illinois. While some are enjoying their tiny rides, others are facing frustrations, specifically with the Secretary of State’s office. Many drivers are getting notices that their Kei cars are no longer registerable in Illinois, essentially only making them legal for off-road use.

A journalist who covers the automotive industry and a car importer discuss Trump's proposal and if there is market for Kei cars in the U.S.
