Four years after the COVID-19 stay-at-home order in Illinois, we're diving deep into the persistent battle against the disease's long-term effects, known as long COVID.

Joining us today is Dr. Douglas Kasper, an infectious disease specialist at OSF HealthCare and an associate professor of clinical medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine Peoria. Dr. Kasper, who completed his medical education at Loyola University's Stritch School of Medicine and holds board certifications in infectious disease and internal medicine, has been at the forefront of COVID-19 response, providing vital insights into the pandemic's challenges and the innovative solutions developed to combat it.

His work, particularly in tele-medicine and antimicrobial stewardship, showcases the adaptability and resilience of healthcare professionals in addressing both acute and lingering impacts of COVID-19.

Joining him is Dr. Vidya Sundareshan, a key figure in infectious disease at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, who, alongside her patients David and Pam, will share firsthand experiences of long COVID, shedding light on the condition's varied manifestations and the ongoing search for effective treatments.

Together, they offer a comprehensive overview of how our understanding of COVID-19 has evolved, the intricate nature of long COVID, and the concerted efforts within the medical community to provide relief to those affected. This discussion aims to demystify long COVID, emphasizing the collaboration among specialists, researchers, and patients in navigating the complexities of post-COVID health complications.
