Mama Bears documentary highlights conservative Christian moms who protect their LGBTQ children

Mama Bears is a documentary about some parents who are willing to risk alienating the people they know in their lives and their faith communities for the sake of keeping their children safe and supporting who they are. It was presented on public television’s Independent Lens series and is available to stream now on the PBS website. Illinois Public Media is screening the film at the Virginia Theatre in Champaign on June 30 at 7:00 p.m. Followed by a panel discussion with local mama bears, LGBTQ community members, and audience questions.
To talk about the film, the 21st show is joined by the director and producer of the documentary Mama Bears, Daresha Kyi.
