New Illinois State Museum exhibit asks how its collections can better represent communities

Illinois State Museum in Springfield Reginald Hardwick/IPM News
Museums are known for their vast collections, and the Illinois State Museum is no exception. So a key question for museum curators is how you decide what to put on exhibit. It's something that a lot of institutions have been reflecting on, as societal perceptions and tastes change, and museum curators ask themselves how a collection can better represent a marginalized community?
This is where the Illinois State Museum's Here, There: New Perspectives on the Collection guest-curated exhibition comes in. It explores the museum's very own collection and highlights the works of those underrepresented.
