Rebroadcast: Letterboxd: Social Media for Movie Lovers

Editor's Note: This segment originally aired in January 2021.

Several activities have been put on pause or modified because of the pandemic; going to movie theaters is amongst one of those activities, and with streaming services widely available, new releases have found a new way of reaching audiences. As more people are sitting at home watching films, many have turned to the social media platform Letterboxd to rate and candidly share their opinions about films. Within the past year, Letterboxd has doubled its userbase from 1.7 million to over 3 million today.

Amongst one of the most popular users on the site is Central Illinois native Lucy May. The 21st spoke to her to discuss Letterboxd and how it attracts a younger user base.

Guests:

Lucy May, popular film critic from Central Illinois on Letterboxd

Gemma Gracewood, Letterboxd Editor-in Chief
