Reporter Roundtable: Civil Rights Icons; COVID-19 In Black Communities; SNAP Concerns
The 21st acknowledges the deaths of two icons of the Civil Rights Movement: Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian, an Illinois native who would become a top official in Martin Luther King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Rep. John Lewis (D-Georgia), who was among the people who set out to desegregate a public pool in Cairo, a city in deep southern Illinois.
The 21st is joined with reporters across the state to examine the unequal conditions that Black people are still fighting against to this day like food insecurity and the COVID-19 pandemic.
