As The 21st goes to air the morning of Nov. 9, 2020, COVID-19 continues to surge across Illinois. More than 10,000 new cases were reported on Nov. 8, and the seven-day average for the statewide positivity rate is over 10%. Meanwhile, the United States of America has a president-elect. Former Vice President Joe Biden, after nearly 50 years in politics and on his third presidential run, will sit behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.

President Donald J. Trump has vowed to press on with legal challenges, but so far they’ve been rejected by the courts, and the work of transitioning to a new administration has already begun. The 21st speaks with two public radio reporters and takes a look at reaction in Illinois and what a Biden presidency could mean for Illinois.

Guests:

Hannah Meisel, statehouse reporter for NPR Illinois

Dave McKinney, political reporter for WBEZ
