As of June 15, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced hundreds of newly confirmed COVID-19 infections every day — 672 on Sunday, 673 Saturday — plus scores of deaths. Meanwhile, protests continue over the police killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, and the problem of racism in American life. To look at how these stories are playing out, The 21st speaks with reporters around the state.

Guests:

Yvonne Boose, arts & culture reporter at WNIJ.

Ryan Denham, digital content director at WGLT.

Prepared for web by Zainab Qureshi.

Editor's Note: Kristen Schorsch, government & politics reporter at WBEZ, was scheduled to appear and introduced in the segment but technical issues prevented her from appearing on The 21st today.
