Schoenburg and Finke Exit the Statehouse
The end of November 2020 marks the end of an era for state government/political reporting. Bernard Schoenburg and Doug Finke are retiring from Springfield’s State Journal-Register newspaper. Schoenburg started covering the Statehouse at the end of session in 1977, for the Pantagraph in Bloomington. He spent a decade there and a few years with the Associated Press before going to the SJ-R, where he’s been political writer and columnist since 1992. In the 1980's, Finke started covering the Statehouse during Gov. James Thompson's administration.
