Groundwater has been running out in Joliet, so city officials have voted to buy into Chicago’s Lake Michigan water to ensure it can keep up with its population’s water demands. Meanwhile, in the predominately Black community of Centreville, citizens have been living for decades with sewage overflows which can be seen in plain sight.

To discuss the water access issues in these areas, The 21st was joined by two journalists who have been following the stories.

Guests:

Catharine Smith, journalist who wrote If white people were still here, this wouldn't happen: the majority-Black town flooded with sewage for The Guardian

Morgan Greene, Metro Reporter for Chicago Tribune
