Today, we hear from another of the half dozen men and women seeing the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Illinois. This is for the seat being vacated by Dick Durbin, who decided not to seek a sixth term.

Pamela Denise Long was born and raised in Mississippi though her family history goes back several generations in the Metro East region of Illinois, near St. Louis. She herself came to the area to attend Lewis and Clark Community College, where she earned an Associate's degree.

Eventually Long earned an education doctoral degree in organizational development from Grand Canyon University. Long has worked as an occupational therapist, and more recently as a consultant. For several years she was also an adjunct professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. In recent years, she’s written political commentary that’s appeared in media outlets including Newsweek and RealClearPolitics. And now, Long is running for Senate. She joins the program live today in our studios in Urbana.
