Public universities, like so much else in Illinois and around the world, have had to scramble in response to the novel coronavirus. We interview Tim Killeen, president of the University of Illinois System, on the university’s response to COVID-19, a significant hit on its finances, and what comes next for higher education in an age of pandemic.

Today is also the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. We talk with two leaders of the environmental movement in Illinois about marking a day of environmental education and activism amid what's arguably an even more pressing threat to humanity.
