African American audiences have long been neglected by mainstream media. However, when they are involved in mainstream media,  they are actively harmed by them again and again. A new radio station in central Illinois, Illinois Soul, plans to do things differently by appealing to Black listeners with public radio news, information, music, and culture. Illinois Soul is part of the portfolio of Illinois Public Media (WILL-AM/FM/TV), which also produces The 21st Show.
