What’s behind the spike in egg prices?

Shoppers might have gotten used to seeing higher prices at supermarkets this past year, but one item has seen a larger jump in prices than others: eggs. While the same economic factors that drove up other grocery prices have affected eggs, another circumstance has contributed to their price tag. The United States has been dealing with an outbreak of avian flu, which has heavily egg-producing farms across the country and added to the combination of factors leading to price increases.
