U Of I, Northwestern, U Of Chicago Decry Travel Ban

Illinois universities are speaking out against President Donald Trump's sweeping travel ban that has left some students and professors stranded abroad. University of Illinois President Tim Killeen put out a statement Monday saying its three campuses are "greatly concerned'' about the ban and "strongly recommend that students and scholars who might be affected defer travel outside the U.S.''

U Of I Volleyball Coach Hambly Leaving For Stanford

University of Illinois head volleyball coach Kevin Hambly is leaving to take the same position at Stanford University. The announcement was made Monday morning. In eight seasons, he led Illinois to six NCAA regional appearances, and in 2011, took the Illini to the national title match – for the first time in school history.

Hundreds Attend Rally For Immigrants At U Of I’s Willard Airport

An estimated 600 people attended Sunday’s rally against President Donald Trump’s executive order to ban travelers from seven majority-Muslim countries. The event came together after organizers like Ann Abbott reached out on Facebook the night before. She says the Trump administration is trying to use fear to pit U.S. citizens against one another. “This is not 2001, this is 2017, and we are smart, not scared,” she told the crowd.

Arrivals To U.S. Blocked And Detained As Trump’s Immigration Freeze Sets In

President Trump's executive order on immigration is sending shockwaves across the U.S. and the globe.

Just one day after he enacted a ban on the admittance of all refugees to the United States, temporarily freezing immigration from seven mostly Muslim countries, confusion, chaos and fear are roiling international airports. Refugees are being barred from boarding U.S.-bound flights. Immigrants are being detained at U.S. airports.

U Of I: Not Clear How AG’s Filing Impacts University Workers

A court filing by Illinois’ Attorney General seeks to halt state worker paychecks by the end of February, and not let them resume until there’s agreement on a state budget. But it’s not yet clear if Thursday’s action would extend to University of Illinois employees. 

U of I spokesperson Tom Hardy says the system’s legal office is reviewing Lisa Madigan’s motion.
