East-central Illinois ceremonies marking the 15th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001 included one held by Champaign firefighters. The ceremony began at 8:46 AM, marking the minute (8:46 AM Eastern Time) when the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City.

There are no reports of injuries, but at least two rural properties were destroyed near Homer and Broadlands. Meterologist Jeff Frame says he estimates the tornado, which stayed on the ground for 17 minutes, as an EF-2 based on the level of damage. There are also reports of at least one more tornado and some damage in Vermilion County.
