The great Russian pianist Sviatoslav Richter was 45 in 1960, when he was finally allowed to perform in the West. Amid rapturously received appearances, he played the Brahms Second Piano Concerto in Chicago with enormous success, and the recording made soon after was immediately acclaimed as a classic. On Classics of the Phonograph, Saturday at 11 am on WILL-FM, we will hear the Second Piano Concerto and other examples of Richter’s great artistry.
