Left: Sean C. Garrick Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Right: Luisette Kraal is often at the free clothing store she co-founded in the Uptown neighborhood helping migrants get basic needs or connecting them to resources. She and her husband, Ed, have lived in Chicago for 12 years. They've created a network of support for hundreds of migrants who have recently arrived in Chicago. But due to challenges with their immigration status, they might have to leave the country soon.

The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign is a force in Champaign County, driving more than a BILLION dollars for the local economy. Black businesses are only a small part of that. Reginald Hardwick, spoke Sean Garrick, the Vice Chancellor for Diversity Equity and Inclusion at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign to connect more Black and minority owned businesses with the U of I.

Next up, David Brancaccio of the Marketplace Morning Report, recently visited Detroit, to learn about a video game about housing discrimination where the only violence is in the economics. Adriana Cardona Maguigad from WBEZ reports on a North Side Chicago woman was one of the first advocates to help migrants when they were sent to police stations.

And finally, the Illinois National Guard has a rich history that dates back more than 300 years. IPM’s Brian Mackey spoke with Major General Rodney Boyd as he became the 41st adjutant general of the Illinois National Guard.
