MTT conducts Britten, Mozart, Shostakovich: the San Francisco Symphony on the “Evening Concert”
Tonight at 7:00 on the Evening Concert on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony. Toby Spence is the tenor, Robert Ward the horn soloist in Benjamin Britten’s “Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings”. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas conducts. Also on the program a Divertimento by Mozart and Shostakovich’s 15th Symphony. Britten's Serenade is complemented by Copland's exhilarating Danzón Cubano and Shostakovich's farewell to the symphonic form, which quotes Rossini and Wagner, and ends with gentle rasps of percussion that ease the music into the infinite.
