From Petals to the Plate: Edible Garnishings from your Garden

Do you grow plants? Yes?! Well, you’re a horticulturist (at least in Kelly’s eyes)! From the expert herself, Kelly admits—plants can be challenging. We have all killed plants, but it’s just part of the process of learning how to care for and nurture them. So don’t give up! And send us your questions when a problem arises, and we’ll ask the experts! This week, Kelly brought in a variety of edible flowers that she has been growing throughout the season. We were surprised by how flavorful they were and can’t wait to try some of these beautiful flowers in our favorite recipes.

Just make sure you don’t use pesticides on these plants if you plan to eat the flowers!

Kelly’s Edible Flowers:

--Gladiolus

--Borage

--Herbs

--Pot Marigold (calendula)

--Viola (Johnny Jump Up)

--Anise (Pimpinella)

--Basil

--Nasturtium

Next, we answered your questions about those little bugs you might be seeing on your milkweed and squash. Kelly gives you tips on how to prevent, control, and manage these pests.

Although you may have heard some floral and home designers recently saying that succulents are out of style, Kelly is here to remind you how beautiful these easy, hardy plants truly are with her lush succulent arrangements. She talks all about how to care for these little plants from when they’re just a leaf or cutting to repotting to building arrangements like the ones featured on the show. Here are some of her favorites she talked about today!

Kelly’s Succulents:

--Elephant Food - Portulacaria Afra

--Senecio

--Crassula

--Jade

--Echeveria

--Sedum

--Campfire” Crassula
