The top Democrat in Illinois’ state senate is preparing for a divide between his chamber and the new Republican governor.
A new group says they oppose any school referendum that would build a new Champaign Central High School on the north edge of the city.
Illinois has more than 850 school districts and over 13,000 school administrators in its K-12 system. Gov. Bruce Rauner says those numbers are bloat to the system and is calling for a paring down of what he calls "education bureaucracy."

On Thursday Rauner went one step further, saying government unions should be banned from contributing to political campaigns.
