AFT President Randi Weingarten Talks About Issues Facing Public Sector Unions

These are uncertain times for public sector unions, both in Illinois and around the country. American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten answers questions about the issues, in an interview with Brian Moline, originally broadcast live on WILL Radio during Morning Edition on Wednesday, January 13.

Ms. Weingarten heads up the nation's second-largest teachers' union.

She discussed topics including the recent oral arguments at the Supreme Court concerning mandatory "fair share" fees collected from public sector union members, proposals from Republican Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner to weaken unions, what public sector unions could do to help alleviate Illinois' budget deficit and the new Every Student Succeeds Act, the successor to the No Child Left Behind law.
