Champaign Teachers Reach Tentative Agreement with Unit 4

Champaign’s teachers union has reached a tentative contract with Unit 4 schools.

Champaign Federation of Teachers President Cathy Mannen says it’s an agreement she and others approve of, but will hold a full ratification vote before any details can be released.

“Our CFT team felt that what the district proposed tonight was fair, and was something that we could take back to our membership," she said.

Mannen says the remaining issue of salary was addressed in Monday afternoon’s negotiating session.  She doesn’t know when the CFT’s membership will vote on the tentative contract.

Champaign Unit 4 School Board President Sue Grey couldn’t be reached for comment Monday night, but prior to the session she was optimistic an agreement would be reached soon.

The last contract for Champaign teachers expired June 30th, and the CFT had approved a strike authorization notice earlier this month.

The two sides had been meeting with a federal mediator since August.
