Chancellor: Budget Impasse Damaged University’s Reputation

University of Illinois Chancellor Robert Jones says he’s still repairing the damage that the recently ended state budget impasse caused to the Urbana campus.

"While it didn’t have the impact on this university like some of our peer institutions, I can assure you that it did have a detrimental impact," Jones said.

Jones told a meeting last Friday of the U of I Council of Academic Professionals that he had to protect the university’s reputation during the budget crisis.

"You had to spend another hour and a half or a half day explaining to potential candidates that everything was going to be all right and financially the university was sound," he said.

Jones says now that the state finally has a budget, he and other administrators will develop a financial framework for the campus which can withstand another budget stalemate in the future.
