Daley Pushes Campaign Cash Ban During Session

Former White House chief of staff Bill Daley wants tougher campaign contribution laws while state lawmakers are in session and says lax regulations are a reason pension reform efforts failed. 

The Chicago Democrat is preparing a run for governor. He announced Monday that he wants to bar lawmakers and candidates from accepting contributions while meeting in Springfield. The idea is to keep campaign money from influencing decisions at the Capitol. 

He says the exception would be an election year. Daley says he'll abide by the proposal this year, including if there's a special session later this month.

Daley formed a 2014 exploratory committee last month. His campaign announced that he's raised $800,000 since then.

Gov. Pat Quinn says he's seeking re-election and Attorney General Lisa Madigan is weighing a run.
