Danville Man Shot By Deputy Now Facing Charges

Illinois State Police say a Danville man wounded in an officer-involved shooting last week is now in custody on a weapons charge.

20-year old Caleb Emory had been hospitalized after the early morning hours of November 21, when Vermilion County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a home on Georgetown Road for a domestic disturbance. 

During what was termed 'attempted enforcement action' Emory was shot by a deputy, suffering non-life threatening injuries, and was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana. 

On Tuesday afternoon, Emory was released from the hospital, and taken into custody by Vermilion County deputies.

He's charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault of a person 60 years of age, and assault, and is in the Vermilion County Jail on $100,000 bond.

State Police say no other information is being released at this time. 

Following last week's incident, Vermilion County Sheriff Pat Hartshorn defended his deputy's actions, saying he was following departmental procedure, and had been with the sheriff's department for 20 years.
