State Police Investigate Shooting Involving Vermilion County Deputy

Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting of a man in rural Danville by a Vermilion County sheriff’s deputy.   

A press release indicates deputies were called to a home on Georgetown Road just past 4 a.m. Thursday on a report of a domestic disturbance.  

That’s where state police say 20-year old Caleb Emory was shot by a deputy, during attempted ‘enforcement action’ by the department.  Emory suffered non life-threatening injuries.    

Illinois State Police were asked to investigate the shooting by Vermilion County deputies shortly after the incident, and say no other information is being released at this time.

UPDATE:  The sheriff in Vermilion County says one of his deputies was following departmental procedure when he shot a man.

The News-Gazette reports that Sheriff Pat Hartshorn says the deputy remains on duty following Thursday's shooting as state police investigate the incident.

Hartshorn would not comment further. He says the deputy has been with the department more than 20 years but would not identify him.
