Eureka Woman Convicted Of Looting After Tornado

A central Illinois woman has been convicted of felony looting after she collected items from the yard of a retired couple whose Washington home was destroyed by a tornado.

Ayron Casey of Eureka is facing up to three years in prison for looting after a tornado last November. Two retail theft convictions from the past decade will also be considered during her Jan. 8 sentencing date. Two other people have also been charged with looting after the tornado.

Casey said she wanted the homeowners to know she's sorry and believed the items she took were being thrown out.

The Pekin Daily Times reports the November 17th tornado destroyed or damaged more than 1,000 homes in Washington. Another tornado from the November 17th outbreak caused severe damage in the Champaign County town of Gifford.
