Longtime Doctor Made State Fair Grand Marshall

An 88-year-old doctor from Rushville who charges $5 an office visit has been named the grand marshal of the Illinois State Fair parade.

Gov. Pat Quinn announced Tuesday that Dr. Russell Dohner would receive the honor. Dohner has been practicing medicine in western Illinois for 58 years.

The governor's office says Dohner only charges the small amount so his patients can afford care.

Quinn says no one embodies the state fair theme better than Dohner. This year's theme is "Where Illinois Comes Together.''

Dohner is a World War II veteran and graduate of Northwestern University Medical School. He has been a doctor in Rushville since 1955.

The parade starts the state fair every year. It is Thursday.
