A new driver services facility is opening in Champaign this month after the former office closed due to carbon-dioxide levels. The closest office is currently in Rantoul. The new center will open in Champaign on August 11th. The former building that was located on Bradley Avenue in northwest Champaign closed last November after employees and customers complained about air quality problems.

Illinois Secretary of State Spokesman Henry Haupt said they’ve looked at thirteen locations throughout the Champaign community after making the final decision of the new location. The new location will be on Round Barn Centre at 2012 Round Barn Road in Champaign.

“It’s located very close to the interstate and on top of that, because it’s a newer facility, they have implemented a number of energy efficient efforts so it should certainly help with air quality concerns," said Haupt.

Haupt said that the new driver services facility will be a much larger space and will include an improved parking lot.
