Rector Seeks GOP Nomination For Champaign County Clerk

A Champaign County Board member wants to be the next Champaign County Clerk.

Jon Rector announced Wednesday that he’s running for the Republican nomination for Clerk. In a news release, Rector stated he wants to be clerk to get more people to vote.

Rector was appointed to the County Board in 2015 and elected in 2016. His term on the board runs until 2020.

There are two Republicans vying for County Clerk -- Rector and Matt Grandone. Grandone has the support of incumbent Clerk Gordy Hulten, who is leaving the Clerk’s office to run for County Executive.

Urbana Alderman Aaron Ammons is running for the Democratic nomination.

The primary for Clerk is in March, 2018.
