The Illini baseball team is now riding a 17-game winning streak, the longest in its history.  With a 36-6-1 overall record, Illinois has moved up the USA Today Coaches’ Poll - now 7th overall in the country.

Former Major League broadcaster Andy Masur announced the Illini’s three-game sweep at Penn State over the weekend for the Big Ten Network.

He said overall, the Big Ten Conference has improved, and expects multiple teams in the NCAA finals a few weeks from now.

As for Illinois' baseball team, he told Illinois Public Media’s Jeff Bossert that it starts with some of the older players serving as a mentor to new ones.

"This team has a nice mixture of older and younger players, and players with a lot of experience," Masur said.  "I think that almost relates almost better to a younger player than it would coming from a coach.  I think you need to hear it from your peers."
