Voices Unite!
On this week's Prairie Performances, Friday night at 7 pm on WILL-FM 90.9: Two outstanding college choirs from separate continents join forces to celebrate the unifying power of music. Andrew Megill, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, leads the combined choirs in an “American” half, featuring Corigliano’s beautiful setting of Dylan Thomas’ lyric poem Fern Hill and Bernstein’s setting of six liturgical Psalms. Johannes Hiemetsberger, conductor of the Webern Kammerchor, directs the “Viennese” half with Schubert’s final setting of the Mass, a masterpiece highlighting the artistic liberties indicative of the composer’s late style.
