Republican leaders in Congress have started the process of dismantling the Affordable Care Act. But an advocate in Champaign says she is glad to see they're slowing down the process of repeal and replace. GOP Congressman John Shimkus of Collinsville expects finding that replacement, made up of a "multitude of bills", will take most of 2017.

On a day that has seen huge crowds in cities across the country, the Champaign County Young Democrats brought out an estimated 5,000 people to protest Friday's inauguration of President Donald Trump. Following a series of speeches in Westside Park Saturday, the group made its way through downtown Champaign. The event was touted as an official sister march to the national Women's March on Washington.

Residents living near a former manufactured gas plant in Champaign say utility company Ameren "won't lift a finger" to address concerns about toxic vapors in the neighborhood. So those in the 5th and Hill neighborhood have called upon the U.S. EPA, which is offering free inspections to those living in the area. The agency is hosting a public meeting Thursday to sign up those residents.

A new report by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine estimates a large majority of those over age 50 who may benefit from hearing aids don't use them. Champaign County Health Care Consumers says the primary problem is affordability, since the devices cost thousands of dollars.
