In Illinois, mental health workers are beginning to be paired with police officers while responding to calls. We talked with members of a police department, a behaviorial health program and a program that offers alternatives to calling the police during mental health crises.
The city of Decatur has named Jim Getz as its new police chief.
The city issued a press release Thursday stating that Brad Sweeney, who's been chief since January 2015, has been fired, but City Manager Tim Gleason said he wouldn't provide further comment because this is a personnel matter. Deputy Chief James Getz was named interim police chief.
