Gov. Bruce Rauner and his Democratic challenger J.B. Pritzker were minutes away from crossing paths Wednesday in Normal as they asked a tent full of farmers for their support.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker made his pitch to downstate voters on Wednesday at a campaign stop at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union hall in Champaign. 

Last month, the state's voters decided on the Republican and Democratic nominees for governor. But with the primaries behind them, the winners still have to convince those who wanted someone else at the top of the ticket.

Democrat J.B. Pritzker and Republican incumbent Bruce Rauner will square off this fall in the general election for Illinois governor.  Each pumped millions into their campaigns to win primary races.  Their return on investment shows just how costly this race will be.  

Illinois primary voters have spoken. This year’s race for governor will be a battle between two of the wealthiest men in the state.
