Champaign County has already hired a firm to broker the sale of the Champaign County Nursing Home. But Democrats blocked the formal call for potential buyers in October, when the proposal failed on a mostly party-line 11-11 tie, with Pattsi Petrie (D-Champaign) joining Republicans in supporting it.. On Tuesday night (Jan. 9th), the county board will look at the proposal again. 

The Champaign County Board is getting ready to hire the same firm to broker a potential sale of its troubled nursing home that brokered the sale of Vermilion County’s nursing home four years ago.  But efore any sale occurs, the county board is hiring a new management firm for the facility, one that specializes in turning around nursing homes with problems.

The Champaign County Board will discuss three possible referendum questions concerning its financially strapped county nursing home at a special meeting Tuesday evening.  The choices are --- help the nursing home with a special sales tax or a property tax increase ….  or give the county permission to sell or close the facility. One of the three proposals could wind up on the ballot in the April 4th local elections.

After hearing a number of comments from the 'Build Programs Not Jails' movement, on a vote of 15-2, the Champaign County Board Thursday approved placing a quarter-cent sales tax on the November ballot.
