The Frances Nelson Health Center was formally established in 1969 as a free clinic aimed at promoting equal access to health care—and continues with that mission today.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently awarded grants totalling $2.1 million to address the opioid crisis in central Illinois and improve the quality behavioral health services. One of those recipients if Promise Healthcare in Champaign, which received nearly $167,000.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded more than $12 million to 40 community health centers across Illinois. The funding will be used to expand access to substance abuse treatment and mental health services.

The Urbana School District has a new operator for its School-Based Health Center, which offers medical, dental and counseling services to all children in Urbana School District 116, from its location at Urbana High School.

Adult Medicaid recipients in Illinois can now receive coverage for preventive dental services, which include regular exams and teeth cleanings. Coverage for these services were part of the new state budget that took effect on July 1.
