Ammons’ New Legislation Takes On Temp Staffing Agencies

New legislation from State Representative Carol Ammons takes on Illinois’ temporary staffing agencies over poor working conditions and wages. The Urbana Democrat says many temp workers are subject to low wages, unsafe working conditions, and sometimes, racial and gender discrimination. She's the lead sponsor of the Responsible Job Creation Act, which will offer protections to these workers and increase transparency in hiring practices.

An Estimated 5,000 Attend Women’s March In Downtown Champaign

On a day that has seen huge crowds in cities across the country, the Champaign County Young Democrats brought out an estimated 5,000 people to protest Friday's inauguration of President Donald Trump. Following a series of speeches in Westside Park Saturday, the group made its way through downtown Champaign. The event was touted as an official sister march to the national Women's March on Washington.

U Of I Trustees Endorse Metric-Based Funding Plan

University of Illinois leaders are backing proposed legislation that would tie levels of state funding with performance metrics like awarding financial aid, graduation rates, and holding down tuition costs. President Tim Killeen says the 5-year pact would guarantee ‘baseline’ state funding would increase by the rate of inflation during each remaining year.
