Analysis: University of Illinois Springfield Distinguished Public Finance Professor Kenneth Kriz co-edited a book that documents the evolution of tax increment financing, an economic and community development method widely used across the country, including in Illinois, which has more than 1,400 TIF districts in over 500 municipalities. Tax Increment Financing and Economic Development: Uses, Structures, and Impacts was recently published by SUNY Press.

Farmer City Mayor Mike Jenkins has rescinded the resignation he announced on Friday, following controversy over alleged improper payments made by the city's now-closed TIF district.

The council unanimously directed staff to start working on a $95 million private development with Hans Grotelueschen.  The new plan's central site is the parking lot at Washington and Walnut Streets, and would be the site for a high-rise that includes a conference center, apartments, and hotel rooms.
