Apparent Suicide Outside U Of I’s Krannert Center

University of Illinois Police are investigating an apparent suicide involving a student at the campus’ Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Officers responded to a report of a fire at Krannert’s outdoor amphitheater just before 3 a.m. Wednesday. Police found a person with severe burns, who was likely deceased, with a gas can next to him. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup tells the News-Gazette the deceased was identified as a 21-year old male student from Gurnee.

Campus Senate Approves ‘Inclusive Climate’ Measure After Healthy Debate

A faculty-student panel at the University of Illinois has passed a measure that renews a commitment to diversity, and a welcoming climate for minority and LGBT students in the wake of the presidential election. But there was also a fair amount of debate at Monday’s meeting of the Urbana Campus Senate - primarily over whether the 'Resolution on an Inclusive Campus Senate' needed further review.

Five People Shot, One Killed, After Shooting Near U Of I Campus

Authorities say five people were shot, one of them fatally, in two separate overnight shootings within minutes of each other near the University of Illinois Campus. Police say in a news release that they believe the two shootings may be related. The person who died is identified as George Korchev of Mundelein. The other three were taken to a hospital for treatment of what police called non-critical gunshot wounds.
