The student accused of hanging a noose in an elevator at a University of Illinois residence hall in Urbana is no longer enrolled on campus. A U of I spokesperson would not comment on whether 19-year-old Andrew Smith had been expelled, saying federal privacy laws prevent the release of any additional information.

State police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the Campustown area of Champaign.

If you see something suspicious, call the police, even if you think it might turn out to be nothing. 

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Police Department will soon be putting body cameras on their patrol officers, and the police chief says most officers welcome the addition.

There are now two separate rewards posted for information that helps solve the disappearance of Yingying Zhang. Zhang is the 26-year-old University of Illinois visiting scholar from China who has  been missing since June 9th. One reward is being offered by the FBI, and the other by her family, using community donations.
