WFMT Orchestra Series: San Francisco Symphony

Wednesday night June 12 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the San Francisco Symphony. You’ll hear Shostakovich’s “First Symphony” and Wynton Marsalis’ “Blues Symphony”. Cristian Măcelaru guest conducts.  Also on the program Finnish composer Outi Tarkiainen’s (OH-Tee Tar-key-aynen) “Milky Ways” featuring soloist Russ de Luna.

Monday night June 3 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s “The New York Philharmonic This Week”. Aaron Copland conducts an abridged version of his opera “The Tender Land” . Also on the program Ellington’s “A Tone Parallel to Harlem” and Russo’s “ 2nd Symphony”.

Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra

Wednesday night October 4 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on WILL-FM 90.9 it’s the first program in a new series from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. You’ll hear Wynton Marsalis’ “Herald, Holler, and Hallelujah” and Strauss’ “An Alpine Symphony”. Also on the program Gershwin’s “Concerto in F” with soloist Aaron Diehl.


Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Thursday night October 27 at 7:00 on the “Evening Concert” on FM 90.9 it’s the “Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra”.  Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the group in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” and Wynton Marsalis’ “Herald, Holler and Hallelujah”. Also on the program Britten’s “Piano Concerto” with soloist Leif Ove Andsnes.
