A March heat wave baked the West and High Plains with reports of record breaking temperatures. More than 100 record highs were broken or tied last week across several states in the West and High Plains.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory last week. This is the first time in history a warning like this has been issued in March for the region.

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Department of Climate, Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences professor Stephen Nesbitt  and Illinois State Climatologist with the Prairie Research Institute, Trent Ford, talk about how this heatwave shattered records across parts of the U.S.
